Insurance Information
Unfortunately, health insurance is extremely complicated.
Herein we provide details about PearceMD, but if you have additional questions or need clarification, please reach out to us and we will do our best to help!
Value Based Care
As a value-based, not volume-based practice, Dr. Pearce has thoughtfully contracted with certain insurance companies, and chosen not to contract with others, for a variety of reasons that we are happy to share.

It is the responsibility of the patient to understand their health insurance policy, including if their insurance is in-network with our providers, have a co-pay, deductible, or require a referral.

Please be aware that like any other medical office, even if we are in-network, you may still be required to provide payment at the time of the visit (Co-pay due at the time of visit) and/or after the visit via bill, depending on the details of your insurance plan, deductible met, co-insurance policy, etc. We do not make these rules and must follow contracted rates.

-
We are IN-NETWORK with the following insurance carriers:
- Taro (now called Mending) Health
-
Maine Community Health Options
-
Traditional Medicare
-
Aetna Medicare Advantage
- Aetna (this include Meritain Health)

-
We are Out-of-Network with any insurance carrier not listed above, including all other commercial Medicare Advantage plans
-
For cash-pay and Out-of-Network patients, we offer transparent prices and you will be provided this information before the visit.
-
We do not file these insurance claims, but can happily provide a receipt and itemized Superbill (CPT codes, NPI info, etc.) for any patient wishing to file their own claim to towards their Out-Of-Network benefits
-
We accept cash, check, and credit card payments
-
We have payment plans available through Scratch Pay, please contact us for more information
-
Can I use my HSA/FSA? We accept these payments but it is up to you to check with your benefits provider about qualifying services.
-
Self Referrals
As a smaller practice, please be aware of the following details:
-
We do not formally require a referral, but if your specific insurance plan REQUIRES one, it will be up to you to arrange this with your PCP.

-
Dr. Pearce and Gillian Croteau, PA-C, work together as a team and co-manage patients. Their number one goal is timely patient care so depending on a number of factors, patients may Dr. Pearce or Gillian, often both, and can be assured their care is closely communicated. Together they offer a combined 24 years of ENT experience!

-
Every referral and self-referral is reviewed by our team to ensure an appropriate clinical and timely placement, and this can take 1-2 business days. This may result in a phone call to you from our Triage MA to gather more information.

-
In the rare event we are unable to see a new patient due to complexity and/or emergent nature of care needed, this will be communicated to the referral source/inquiring patient.
Required New Patient Forms
To make your first visit easy and efficient, please fill out your information and sign the patient forms. These allow Dr. Pearce and Gillian to learn about you ahead of time. The easiest way to do this is through the PATIENT PORTAL.

If you are not comfortable or able to fill out the paperwork online/enroll in the portal, no problem! You can fill these out in the office.
Patient Portal
We have recently upgraded to a new, sophisticated Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system called "Modernizing Medicine". ModMed includes a robust patient portal and the "APPatient" app. We highly encourage all new and established patients (or their caregivers) to enroll in the portal for secure and efficient communication.
Through the Portal You Can:
-
Request, Confirm, Change, and Cancel appointments
-
Securely communicate with Gillian, Dr. Pearce, and the PearceMD staff
-
Review notes, reports, and orders
-
Update your information (medical history, contacts, pharmacy, etc.)
-

What to Expect During Your First Visit
During your visit, you will be treated with respect, kindness and have your ENT concerns addressed. We will review your health history, have a conversation about your symptoms and questions, and we will perform a full exam of your ears, nose, and/or throat. Gillian and Dr. Pearce believes your health and time matter, so we book initial visits for approximately 45-60 minutes and do our best to run on time!

You may be assured that we do everything possible to make your visit comfortable and low-key. Our goal is for you to enjoy your time in the office and leave with a positive experience, questions answered, and a plan created.

Depending on your symptoms, Gillian or Dr. Pearce may need to perform additional visualization of the nose and throat with a magnifying "scope", and may be able to offer procedures in the clinic during the first visit. You can drive home after any of these and our technology allows you to see the images, if desired! Rest assured, before doing any procedure, we will fully explain the indication, options, what to expect, and cost.
